The Dukes of Hazzard 1x01 - One Armed Bandits Episode Summary In a backwater county in Georgia called Hazzard, live the Duke family consisting of the clan patriarch Jesse Duke a farmer who’s very wise and probably the most trusted person in six counties; his two nephews Bo and Luke Duke; and his sexy niece Daisy Duke. Jesse raised Bo, Luke, and Daisy since their parents died a long time ago. The Duke family has been making whisky for generations. They fought everyone from the British to the Confederacy to stay in the business, until a year ago, Bo and Luke got caught on a moonshine run. Jesse swallowed a lifetime of pride and signed a treaty with the U.S. government to stop making whisky if Bo and Luke could be released on probation. Since then, Jesse has kept his word and no longer makes whisky. Daisy, Bo and Luke’s cousin, is very ambitious. She works as a waitress at the most popular truck stop/bar/restaurant in the county called “The Boar’s Nest” which is owned by the county commissioner Boss Hogg. Boss Jefferson Davis Hogg owns just about everything in Hazzard (including the sheriff) and is very crooked. He’d do just about anything to make a dishonest dollar and his most recent scheme is slot machines. He’s going to have the sheriff, Rosco Coltrane, receive a delivery of illegal slot machines and Rosco being the bitter/dimwitted buffoon he is will do whatever Boss Hogg tells him to. After about 20 years as the best lawman in the state, most of Rosco’s pension got defeated in the last bond election. So Rosco turned bitter and crooked. Now he is up for re-election. Even though Bo and Luke are on probation, that doesn’t stop them have having their share of fun. They make a living helping their wise old uncle Jesse run the farm and in their spare time, they ride around Hazzard County in their souped-up racing car called the “General Lee” chasing beautiful girls. They also fight the system against the crooked local authorities. While they are at the Boar’s Nest having a beer, Bo and Luke discover that the sheriff is about to sneak the one-armed-bandits into the county, and exactly when and where. So Bo and Luke intercept the delivery, with help from Daisy, their good-friend/local mechanic Cooter Davenport and a few other friends. Jesse, however, does not approve of gambling and when he finds the slot machines that Bo and Luke stole, he orders them to get rid of them. Jesse’s word is law around the Duke farm. Bo and Luke decide to distribute the machines to civic clubs and organizations in the area, and use their proceeds from the sales to help the local orphanage get renovated before the health department shuts it down. Rosco soon discovers who took his slot machines and arrests Daisy for hijacking. In jail, Daisy is being guarded by Deputy Enos Strate. Enos is very naďve but the only honest lawman in the county. He also has a crush on Daisy and the reputation of being the oldest virgin in Hazzard County. But true to his word, he must do his duty even if it means locking up the object of his affections. When Bo and Luke go visit Daisy in the county jail, they are able to distract Enos while they help Daisy escape. Rosco and Enos then chase the Dukes all over the county and just as Rosco is about to arrest them, he discovers that the Dukes made their donations to the orphanage in the sheriff’s name, to help him win re-election against an even more corrupt opponent.
